The Big Game
Saturday 20th of August was the big game the game that would decide who was the best team will it be Cobden Kohinoor wanting to win their first grand final in the Under 14s in nearly 15 years or will it be Suburbs wanting to win back to back grand finals first in the Under 14s.
Now for me it was my first grand final well finals because i had to play under 16s as well, i was so nervous i’ve never been so nervous for a league game but it wasn’t just a normal league game it was a GRAND FINAL i didn’t want to screw up because there would be a lot of people watching if you did. Instead of training at Wigham park my team Suburbs trained at our home ground Hargreaves park in Karoro Domain, as soon as i got there everyone was excited but i guessed nervous at the same time because i was, Our coach Shane Pascoe gave us the call to go up stairs and just chat about the game well anything really and we went 1 by 1 or 2 by 2 to get our jerseys since i was a prop Josh, Guy and i got our jerseys together my coach along with our assistant coach shook our hands and congratulated us on a good year and a successful season as well as they told us to keep doing what we’ve been doing all year and for Josh and I to take the hit ups 90% of the time.
Next we went outside all pumped up and eager to get to Wigham and play our hearts out for the final but, there’s always a but, we had to go over everything first our defense, set plays and our set moves we also needed to stretch as well so we wouldn’t get cramps on the field then we practiced our set moves which go by a name only we know and only know what to do so if Riley called...well i can’t say because like i said only we know our set moves so if Riley called one for instance we all got into position and played out the play ya see where i’m going anyway anyway after we did that we had one last talk as a team our coach Shane said that we deserved to be here because we played our hearts out every game of the year to get to this point to get to the grand final and maybe go back to back and he said the following quote”A champion team will be a team of champions” meaning to be a team of champions everyone has to play like champions after that we traveled out to Wigham in about 5 vehicles altogether before we left we were told to go straight under the tunnel and into the shed we did we all got prepared had one last chat about what to do which was Josh and I to take 90% of the hit ups then to chuck a few moves in somewhere in the set of 6.
We get the call to jog out of the tunnel and we all did 1 by 1 i thought to myself don’t stuff up everyone will see it i guess it was just nerves but then i just breathed and i was calm. The referee Kerry Calder blew his whistle and the oppositions kicker Dean Wisdom boots it sky high and riley catches it i run onto it like a charging rhinoceros
Winter
As I get prepared for league on a cold winters day i smell burning of coal cooking in the fire and the close horse right next to it drying my freshly washed clothes straight out of the washing machine it was pouring down outside so my dad hung up the clothes. The time gets closer and closer to the game and i think to myself “Should i play or stay home next the warm fire and make myself a tasty hot chocolate” me being me i chose to play league because i love it and it’s fun to play the thrill of running the ball or tackling someone and then someone saying a good comment about it is amazing to hear. As i get to the game it starts to pour down with rain like a barrage of arrows falling upon you but luckily we get warmed up and it’s not that cold anymore. After the game i get home have a shower wash of the mud which showed how much hard work i put in, after the shower I put on the warmest clothes i had and then instead of staying home and having hot chocolate i decided to have one now to warm me up because to me it was as cold as it was in antarctica then my dad scoops coal out of the coal buckets and chucks it into the fire slowly turning to ash as it burns. As the day slowly comes to an end it gets colder and colder after an amazing game of league to a fun time chilling by the fire drinking a tasty hot chocolate i jump into bed still wearing some warm clothes i lay there trying to keep warm then i eventually dose away and fall asleep in my warm and comfortable bed.
My Favourite Ginger
Riley Pascoe, he is a creative character he has the height of Keith ”Mister” Jennings standing at 5’7 so he isnt the tallest person ever but that definitely doesn’t stop him being good at what he does. With hair the same colour as the son a darky orangey colour hes not ashamed of having ginger hair he’s quite proud because his ginger hair has been passed down through his genes from a family member, riley is quite quick on his feet he play halfback for suburbs rugby league club he also shares the kicking role with Tom and Jack Campbell.
